Not shy of working hard and with plenty of ideas illustrator Ryan Garcia’s recent assignment for The New York Times was a perfect fit. Over a two week span, Ryan was commissioned to create illustrations for five op-ed pieces. With our new norm, ‘BREAKING NEWS’ happens at least once a day, so Ryan was prepared to work at a pretty quick tempo. Stories assigned late morning had final art by end of day and the rush of adrenaline made for some great brainstorming. Ryan delivered some of his strongest conceptual work, as impactful in black and white as they are in color.
Published in early October, the work below accompanied op-eds on some of the most important issues at the time. Only time will tell how many of these stories will be remembered and what their lasting impact will be.
