Birds of the World: Adult Coloring Book by Remy Simard

Often labelled as a way to tap into your inner child I'm here to say that adult coloring books deliver more. Much more. When our artist Remy Simard was approached by Blue Star Coloring Books to illustrate a new adult coloring book I was pretty intrigued. A quick Google search revealed a wealth of information about the stress relieving properties of these little books. Could coloring release the tension I carry around each day? Worth a shot.

The experience was pretty transforming. My multi-tasking ways melted away as I became engrossed in the art of staying in the lines. A sense of accomplishment washed over me at the end. A masterpiece? Not quite, but that didn't matter much. I had a greater prize, a sense of calm. Coloring is my new meditation.

Remy Simard chose to center his first coloring book with Blue Star around the topic of birds; birdwatching being Remy's own form of relaxation. So grab your pencil crayons and dive into 30 beautifully illustrated pages crying out for some color.

Rémy Simard for apple Magazine

It's never easy to explain a complex theory, never mind making it an enjoyable experience.  When Editor Terry Bullick at apple magazine was tasked with a story about brain development she turned to illustrator Rémy Simard to help her communicate this intricate topic to her readers.

Rémy's fun, lighthearted, comic book style was the perfect way to break this story down into easy to understand concepts. A quick 5 minute read and you too will be an expert on brain development.

Rémy Simard for Animal Sheltering Magazine

Art director Jamie Mitchell wanted to take the need for a diagrammatic illustration for the article "Do a good scan, Stan!" and have a little fun with it.

He chose Rémy Simard for his ability to do just this!  Jamie envisioned "...a very cute, funny dog in multiple positions/facial expressions, being scanned by a microchipwand."  Our favorite part of this illustration is in fact the dogs facial expressions.

Here is a peek into Rémy Simard's process.  Upon receiving Jamie's brief, Rémy began sketches for presentation.

Rémy Simard Illustrates Graphic Novel 'Robbers!'

After much praise for his illustrations in Duped!, Rémy Simard was asked by Colleen MacMillan, Associate Publisher at Annick Press, to illustrate their next book entitled Robbers!.  Robbers!, the second book in the graphic novel series for young adults, was art directed by Antonia Banyard. Author Andreas Schroeder, the “resident Scam-meister” on the former popular CBC Radio show Basic Black, spent twelve years reporting on ingenious frauds, swindles, and hoaxes committed around the world.  He continues this fascination with a series of books.

Annick says: "Each story (in 'Robbers!') offers a glimpse into the high-octane underworld of the boldest of robbers. The writer’s fascination with criminal masterminds and the illustrator’s action-packed graphic depictions of real-life thievery make this a compelling read for fans of mischief, mayhem, and bad guys on the run."

'Robbers!' hit book stores this month, but why leave the comfort of your computer? - click here to pick up your copy today!
