Please welcome i2i Art’s latest illustrator, mixed-media artist Tara Hardy! Combining carefully selected photos and found items with textures and hand-drawn elements is how Tara tells a story.
Below is a selection of just some of her eye-catching, conceptual and emotion-filled illustrations and we invite you to take a moment to learn a little bit about Tara from our mini Q&A. We hope you enjoy getting to know her and her work as much as we have!
Q: What first inspired you to be an illustrator?
A: It was a bit of an accident or some sort of divine guidance. I applied to be a graphic designer at a magazine. Instead, was hired for an illustration contract. That same illustration was nominated in The National Illustration Awards. I saw it as guidance.
Q: Describe a dream commission?
A: Any commission that has contact with something brilliant. It could be a well-written article, an important subject matter, music.
Q: What personal interests have most affected the direction you’ve taken with your art?
A: Music, meditation, feeling connected to everything around me. Being with my dog has influenced me very much. I am grateful to spend this time with him.
Q: Can you give us some insight into your creative process?
A: I love to find imagery that inspires me. That piece will set off the entire image. Letting go and seeing what happens. I believe that creativity is something that moves through us if it is allowed.
Q: How would you describe your work?
A: Emotional hopefully. Expressive, bold, serious, and yet can be playful.
Q: What do you enjoy the most and what is the most challenging thing, creatively, about commissioned work?
A: I enjoy helping people express personal experiences the most. They are usually the most sensitive. The most challenging is having to work with imagery that is difficult for me to connect to.
Q: Are there certain themes you enjoy illustrating?
A: Anything emotional, environmental, anything conscious. I am a sucker for animals and nature.
