Illustrator Janice Kun's latest children's book Swimming with Seals tells an extremely touching story about a girl who is being raised by her loving relatives rather than her mother. Written by Maggie de Vries for all the children who wish to live with their biological parents and can't quite quite understand why this will never be.
Janice's distinctive at times ethereal style takes us on the journey of a complicated childhood and less than ideal motherhood. The illustrations blend water color paint and photographic elements to create unique depictions, some very location/setting based and others conveying emotional states of mind.
Published by Orca Book Publishers, Swimming with Seals is a lovely addition to the realm of book publishing that thoughtfully deals with hard to answer questions and less than idyllic truths.
