Len Loffler, creative program designer at Clear Channel Airports, knew the expansive landscape of the Rio Grande Valley would be the perfect backdrop to welcome visitors at the newly renovated Harlingen, TX airport. Looking to showcase the beautiful diversity in the area, Len made another great choice in commissioning illustrator Tim Zeltner for the project.
From beautiful desert terrain to lush tropical oceanfront, Tim had plenty of inspiration for this mural, scaled to nearly 10x the size of the original artwork. Tim hand paints all his work, in gouache on wood. Multiple layers of paint and varnish gives an almost luminary quality to his work. It’s easy to understand why that original also found a home at the Harlingen airport.
