Children’s Book Illustrators

Iconically Canadian, The Tragically Hip are one of the nations most cherished bands. Their latest venture, The Tragically Hip ABC children’s book brings hit songs to fans in a new way. Published by Tundra, the book features cover and interior illustration by Monika Melnychuk, alongside three other Canadian artists. Monika has a knack for creating quirky characters with loads of personality. Her lifelike animals are even more entertaining and engaging when accompanied by the band’s legendary lyrics

Step into the hustle and bustle of City of Neighbors, the latest book illustrated by Katy Dockrill and written by Andrea Curtis. As the next book in the award-winning Think Cities series published by Groundwood Books, City of Neighbors explores what makes certain cities special. Katy’s charming figures fill the pages, playing, laughing and establishing a sense of community. Her beautiful brushwork highlights city parks, playgrounds and painted murals, showcasing just a few inclusive ideas that can bring public spaces to life.

Illustrator Talya Baldwin takes us to St. Kilda, Scotland in her recent book, Not the End of the World. Ethereal landscapes and evocative portraits paint a picture of the history, environment and wildlife in a place often referred to as ‘the end of the world’. Signature to her style, Talya’s stunning watercolour technique combined with her unpretentious writing reveals an important story of the land and the uniqueness of a community that once was.

A big i2i Art welcome to the incredibly talented conceptual illustrator and animator, Ane Arzelus! Graphically composed and wonderfully witty Ane’s illustrations have a story to tell. Passionate about communicating complex ideas with a concise delivery, her work is well thought out with a feminine undertone. Tackling topics from anxiety to meditation, Ane is inspired by the narrative behind each concept she shares. She enjoys bringing her illustration to life with a touch of motion and bright colour palettes that deliver bold messages.

Please join us in welcoming the extraordinarily talented Sabina Fenn to our i2i Art roster! Thrilled to have her join the ranks we are even more pleased to share her work. Inspired by travels to sunny destinations Sabina’s illustration exudes warmth and tranquility. Working with watercolour, Sabina’s use of soft colours combined with gorgeous texture, tone and endearing subject matter make for illustrations that keep you coming back for more.

Whether you’re heading to school in person or online for virtual learning, this year has looked a little different. In collaboration with Van Ness Elementary School, Transcend Education sought to create social story booklets to help students navigate their time at school. Brought on by Pop Ed Consulting’s Stephanie Thai, Kelsey Davis was selected to illustrate the complete series.

Illustrator Talya Baldwin’s recent trip to St. Kilda proved to be an inspiring one and she took to her sketchbook to record the awe-inspiring details. Each brush stroke tells a story; from the island’s natural history to its unique community, sharing the ecological history of the land. Almost surreal, Talya’s watercolour paints a magical picture, bringing a sense of hope and beauty to this remote island which seems as though it has stood still in time.

Women Win the Vote illustrated by Katy Dockrill celebrates the 100th anniversary of the 19th amendment. Designed by Kristine Brongo and published by Norton Young Readers, Katy’s illustrations highlight the lives of nineteen remarkable women who led the American women’s suffrage movement.

We think you will agree, Carl Wiens’ illustration amazes in his recent book collaboration, Wild Buildings and Bridges authored by Etta Kaner and published by Kids Can Press. As the name suggests, this reference book dives deep into how architecture is inspired by the wild wonders in nature and with over 40 stunningly detailed illustrations by Carl, the connections are clear. Some of the most recognizable architectural wonders in the world are made even more interesting by they’re inspiration, from lotus flowers to bird’s nest, to honeycombs and waterfalls.
